STHPC offers a specially trained Hospice team to meet the unique needs of the cardiac patient. We recognize that cardiac care may require an added level of flexibility in term of treatment and testing to control the many changeable symptoms involved. Determination of what will be included in the Hospice plan of care is made by examining the purpose of the treatment or testing – looking at why something is needed, not a set list of what is allowed or not. Remember, a DNR is not a requirement for Hospice coverage and assist devices, such as automatic defibulators can be in place. We also are able to provide IV therapies.
Cardiac patients usually fall through the cracks of home care services, leaving them few other options when crises arise than seeking out treatment through the ER or hospital re-admit. Life Beat offers the 24-hour coverage that can respond to crises in the home, including medications and equipment. We also offer the self-care education piece and the day-to-day monitoring, as well as the support for the caregivers, that is essential for maintaining a cardiac patient at home. Our whole team is trained in the specific needs of the cardiac patient, giving the provider skilled hands and eyes in the patient’s home.
